Guidance for Prospective Students

As you consider your options for post-baccalaureate coursework, there are steps you can start taking right away that will help you become a strong candidate for professional school. The following advice and resources can help you get started, even before you've applied to our program.

Getting a Head Start on Your Pre-Health Preparation

Even if you don't yet meet the eligibility requirements for the Individually Designed program, we encourage you to begin working through the steps on our How to Get Started page. In particular, we encourage you to:

  • Watch our onboarding video series (Step 4). These videos provide detailed guidance on academic preparation and the strategic selection of relevant experiences (clinical, research, interpersonal service, etc.) that will help you become a strong applicant to professional school.
  • Make a personal copy of our Pre-Health Advising Notes Google Sheet and begin filling out Tabs 1, 2, and 3. Doing so will help you identify your current strengths as well as areas you'd like to develop further during your post-baccalaureate preparation.

Finding a Pre-Health Advisor Before Joining Our Program

Until you become eligible for pre-health advising in the Individually Designed post-baccalaureate program at Â鶹´«Ã½, check with your alma mater to see if you are eligible to meet with their pre-health advisors. Many institutions offer pre-health advising to alumni.

Note to Â鶹´«Ã½ alumni: The Office of Pre-Health Advising (OPHA) on Â鶹´«Ã½'s main campus offers individual pre-health advising for up to two years post-graduation.

If you are not eligible for pre-health advising through your alma mater, you may submit a request to be matched with a  through the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP). The NAAHP does not have advisors on staff; instead, it connects students who lack access to pre-health advising with member advisors who volunteer their time.

Provisional Enrollment While Completing Prerequisites

Students who meet all program eligibility requirements except completion of one or both prerequisite subjects, and who are currently enrolled in the remaining required coursework, may qualify for provisional enrollment.
This allows students to complete their initial two-hour pre-health advising appointment while finishing their prerequisites. See our Eligibility Requirements page for details.
