My group studies the mathematical principles underlying cognition and collective behavior. We develop and analyze models of how individuals and groups use uncertain information in changing environments, combining Bayesian inference, stochastic processes, and nonlinear dynamics. We validate our theory with behavioral and neural data to identify the strategies biological systems use and the mechanisms that implement them.
Research Interests:
- Social decision making: collective escape and foraging
- Decision making and Bayesian inference
- Spatiotemporal dynamics of neural circuit models and working memory
- Stochastic processes and first passage time methods
